How to Safely Transport a Multi-Layered Cake
You have just finished making a beautiful, large, multi-layered pastry for a friend. But to get that foodstuff to her home, you need to take it to the other side of the city. Here are a few guidelines on how to safely transport the cake in the car and get it to its destination without making a mess and without a single crumb out of place.
First, do not assemble the food item or place the icing, decorations, or toppings on it yet. This way, you can load the boxes easily in the car, and you will lessen the risk of damaging the pastry during transportation. Next, buy some boxes that can fit all the individual cakes. Line each box with wax paper so that the foodstuff inside will not stick to the box. After the insides are completely lined, place a strong support base, usually a piece of thick, wax cardboard. Carefully place each confection on its cardboard base. Close the box lids, and seal them with transparent tape.
Place a non-skid mat on the back seat of your vehicle to prevent the boxes from sliding from side to side. Carefully put the containers as well as those for icing and decoration on the anti-skid mat. Do not place them in the bonnet of the vehicle or the heat inside the compartment will melt the delicious treat. The frame for the layers and the utensils, however, can be placed inside the bonnet. Finally, drive carefully and take slow turns during your journey. Even if the sweets in your vehicle are protected in their containers, they are still fragile. Once you get to your destination, assemble the cake and add the finishing touches.
